I had no problems with COSTCO/HRS for years until Jan 2004. I always pay ALL my bills as soon as I receive them and mail them the next day.
I received my Jan statement from Costco/HRS and it showed my payment was due on SUNDAY Jan 4, and my payment had been posted on Monday Jan 5, with a $25 late fee charged.
I called to complain that not only was the Jan 1 holiday in the middle of the week, by my payment COULD have been received by HRS on Sat. They said they don't post payments on weekends so My payment was posted on Monday and the late fee was "valid".
THEN, when paying THAT statement, I misplaced/lost/or checkebook was stolen so I stopped payment on all outstanding checks. I called HRS to notify them of what was going on and they said I could make an on-line payment to avoid more late fees, and to FAX them a note explaining what happened and they would NOT charge a returned check fee.
I did just that...paid on-line and FAXed a letter. Their FAX machine sent MY fax machine a confirmation of receipt along with a copy of my first page.
Feb statement arrived and the returned check fee WAS charged. When I called they said they never got my FAX. When I said I had a copy of the confirmation with a copy of my first page, they denied that could be since they never got my FAX.
They said to send another FAX, and they'd remove the charge.
March statement arrived. No adjustments made. I received a letter stating I would have to get my bank to send a letter explaining the stop-payment/returned check.
I also was, and am now being charged interest even though I always pay my bill in full each month. Seems they had a "3 month no interest" deal which I did NOT ask to participate in.
The end of Feb was the end of this promo, so even though I had paid my last bill in full, I am now being charged interest on the CURRENT months purchases, so receive ZERO days grace period.
All I got from them was the run-around, so I faxed an extremely angry letter telling them what they could do with their credit card. I got the amount owed up to the day, and sent a payment PLUS some extra money so it would be paid off in full. I also returned $100+ in goods to COSTCO so I would be sure to have a credit balance.
I then instructed HRS to REFUND that credit balance and close my account.
