WH in North Carolina said: “My husband died in Jan 2010 and his loan was paid off because we had life insurance on it. After his loan was paid off HFC took another payment out of our checking account.
I called them and after days of being hung up on and talking to so many people in India, I finally found a phone number to someone in NY. I was assured I would be given my money back, but it would take 30 days.
I waited 45 days to call back and ask where my refund was. I talked to people in India again..I was assured I would get my refund. It was a Tuesday and Peter Fowler said I would have the check by Friday and if I didn’t to call him back on Friday. He then said you don’t need to call me because I will call you Ms. Huff.
I did not get my check on Friday (big surprise).
I called back on Monday and I did just what Peter Fowler told me to do. I asked to speak to him by name and the guy I was speaking to acted like he had never heard of that name (another big surprise).
The new guy whose name I could not clearly understand said I would have to prove once again I was entitled. I explained I had done all of that or the insurance would not have paid off the loan. He said he would need more time and I asked how much more time.
I explained yet again how the loan was completely paid off and they took the payment after the loan was paid off and all I wanted was a refund of my money. I explained that my husband was my only source of income and now I was in need of that money.
I explained that I couldn’t understand why holding onto my $325.00 for months was something his company needed, but I needed the money very much. I explained it was my money because they already had their money.
He was kind and he begged me to stop crying and being upset, but after months of having to explain over and over and over that my husband is dead and I sent them everything they needed to know that…after months of begging for my money back he states he doesn’t think I’ve proved I’m entitled to it.
What can I do? Are there any options for me at this point?”
