Though I experienced problems with the other HSBC companies (ie., receiving my bill with little time to pay w/o a late fee), the one that has convinced me to never use HSBC again is my past Best Buy HSBC card.
I purchased a computer with 18 months interest free. In order to avoid any problems with late fees, or interest being put back on the card, I set up automatic payments through my online bank, WITH enough days for the payment to arrive before the day of the month I was told it would be due.
Little did I know that the day of the month I was given was only for the first month’s payment. I NEVER received a paper or electronic bill.
It was not until I was checking on Best Buy reward points and had trouble with accessing my online account, that I made a call to the 800 #, and was informed that the billing cycle was 25 days vs. 30 days.
AND, I discovered I had received 9 late fees, or $328.50. After calling 3-4 times (talking to representatives and supervisors) and writing a letter to have them review my situation, did they give me $72.50 credit.
DOES THIS SOUND LIKE INTEREST FREE TO YOU? AGAIN, I NEVER RECEIVED A STATEMENT OF ANY KIND.
I now receive notices that I have a statement available, but can not access my account online. It keeps saying my information does not match any account they have on record. How convenient!
If you are reading this, I suggest that you NEVER accept financing through a HSBC back credit card (Best Buy, Menards, Younker, BonTon Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s, Parisian).”
