SA in NEw York said: “HSBC closed my bank account without first notifying me. This follows 6 weeks of me trying to work out a resolution with them regarding my account which was overdrawn. Instead of declining several small ( as low as $16.00) purchases that I made in the same time frame, mistakenly believing I had more than enough money in my account, HSBC paid the amounts and then billed me $39 each, totaling just over $380.00.

Since I am a full time student who has recently had major medical issues this year, I was unable to pay that kind of money in full. I did everything I could to resolve it-wrote two letters, spoke to the local customer service representative and manager in person, called HSBC banking on the phone… the whole nine yards, and I was in the process of contacting them again when I received a statement indicating that my account had been closed.

I have also been reported to CHEX systems, which will prevent me from holding another account. There was no attempt of any kind to resolve the issue with me, other than “Pay us now” type of demand letters. My letters to specific people, asking for a resolution went unanswered.

I held this account for 14 years without a problem and HSBC shut it down without warning. Once they felt that they could not profit from me in a short time frame, they closed my main bank account and atm card without prior notice. Their business practices and general treatment of customers is highly questionable, to say the least.”
