RT in Arizona said: “I first obtained my “Orchard Bank” credit card in 2002 with a $3000 limit.. In 2003 I was called by Account Secure Plus, representing Orchard Bank and was offerd this credit card protection if I become permanently disabled. They harge $22.00 per month for this service and after a long time of declining, I finally agreed to it, by phone.
Sometime later I was injured and after two years of Doctors surgeries, probing and testing, in 2006 I was placed on permanent disability & SSD. I contaccted Account Secure Plus within a couple weeks and they sent me a lenghty form to fill out. I filled it out and returned it to them. A month later I received a letter from them stating my case had been closed because they never received my paperwork. I followed up and they said I only had 45 days to request to open a claim in which I told them I had done so within that time frame. Their response was too bad, they conveniently didn’t recceive it and that was that.
Three years later I am still being charged $22.00 a month for a disability plan that will never pay and everytime I contact them they tell me to send any confirmation of disability to them. I send it and followup to hear the same story, we are sorry but your paperwork was not received within 45 days. I call and state how can you not only pay up on this plan, but continue to charge me for a plan that will not pay. They all say the same thing, “I wish I could help you”. I have sent them everything from my Docyors statements to my SSD stating my Permanent Disabilty.
I have followed up with the BBB, an attorney who wants to charge me more than is owed on the card ($2,600) and finally I have submitted it to the Federal Trade Commission and was just told they will look into it, but they can do nothing for me as an individual.
This is shameful of any company to sell a plan for disability and not honor their plan, especially when someone who has gone through a lot of physical pain to be followed by the mental torture of not only being denied, but continue paying their $22.00 monthly charge on top of 19+% interest. I continue to pay the minimum balance of $65.00 a month when I have not even used this card in years. making this impossible to pay off and the kicker is. I added up their charges plus interest over the last three years and I have paid them more for their protection than what I owe on the card…
Anyone know a good attorney who is willing to work pro-bono because I’m beside myself anymore….Please Help!”
