SB in New Jersey said: “In 2008, HSBC contacted me about someone trying to purchase three $500 gift cards using my Best Buy account number.

They canceled my card & were going to send me a new card under a new account. Meanwhile, I had to contact the FTC, sign an affidavit, file a police report & put a fraud alert on my credit report. A few months later, I stopped receiving any mail from Best Buy/HSBC. Thinking that my account was closed, Best Buy/HSBC decided not to send me another card (with a new account number) so it was up to me to continue sending in my monthly payments on my small balance.

I called yesterday( 1/5/09) to find out for sure what exactly is going on with my “closed account” & if they were receiving my payments.

Turns out, Best Buy/HSBC sent the new card to the people that attempted the fraud. What? I was completely floored that they made such a HUGE mistake, not to mention livid. Luckily, there hasn’t been any activity on the new account but what if there had been?? I made a complaint with the FTC against Best Buy/HSBC & I now have to go through the whole process again of filing a police report, signing an affidavit, etc….

How can Best Buy/HSBC get away with these outlandish mistakes & act like it was no big deal? I feel like they rewarded the frauds & I was penalized.

I really want to sue!!”
